“TV programs harm students”. I am against this statement. Although, watching senseless TV shows on channels like Cartoon Network or POGO is bad for the development of the student’s brain, many educative and sensible TV shows like “Deconstructed”, ”Mythbusters”, “Prototype This!” on channels like Discovery Science and HistoryTV-18 are meant for the development of the student’s logical reasoning, cognitive brain function and rasping power. They also help the student think and work more practically, that is, beyond the textbooks and calculators.

These kinds of television programs educate the students about how, not only, machines, but also, various cultures, societies and ecosystems work. Television programs on nature channels like National Geographic allow the students the entire world and its various civilizations with the comforts of his/her own home at almost no cost.

In my own opinion, these television programs, in today’s fast moving world where applicable knowledge is more important than just memorized definitions and formulae, are essential for the student’s growth of intellect as they are given the exposure to the various kinds of sciences in the world through these shows. This helps the students to choose a line of career in which they are interested and gives them an elaborate idea of how their future could be if they achieved their goal.

The informative television shows also instill a sense of curiosity and an eagerness to learn more in the students which leads them to explore wider ranges of knowledge in different fields. This curiosity, if fueled at the right time, makes them realize that even they have a unique potential that can lead them to achieve great things. I’d like to quote myself that,” A Smart person is not one who only asks smart questions; A Smart person is one who works hard to find answers to those questions himself/herself.”

This way, I’d like to conclude that Television programs have the ability to change the way the students think and are essential for the healthy development of their thoughts and logics.
