Nation’s Father Gandhi
The man with infinite titles; the man because of whom we are who we are today; the man who gave us a jetpack to freedom, equality, liberty, socialism and secularism. A thinker whose teachings on the prowess of non-violence and peace resonates throughout India. The man who brought all Indians together to fight for their rights. The man who led.
What if the great man did not come to join India’s struggle?
What if the father of nation never existed?
What would our road look like in the absence of the Gandhi?
Lets find out.
Gandhi came to India in 1914, the era of radicals. The people had given up on tolerating the suppression of the English and decided to be violent to make their demands heard. But Gandhi was adamant on bring peace as the weapon instead of swords and guns. this movement of peace that Gandhi had revolutionised the way we asked for freedom and rights. Fighting with guns and grenades we would have hit our own foot, leading to death of millions of nationalists and causing bloodshed over the soil of our mother.
Gandhi always worked to bring happiness into lives of common men and tried to remove the hardships the people faced. During those times, factory workers and peasants which made a large portion of our population were badly exploited. They were falling into deeper depths of debts. With new suppressing laws being made against their welfare, would we ever have a leader who could stand for them?
The Rowlatt Act wouldn’t be opposed properly. The one that curbed our rights and gave policeforce a lot of extra powers to arrest anyone they wanted. This was made in the recent uprising, made to slow it down. As famously said by Gandhi, " An eye for an eye will make the whole world blind", we managed to bring peace back by being steadfast on our peace principles instead of answering the slaughter by slaughter. Who except Gandhi could've taught us that?
Our Indian markets were being flooded with our own cotton, our own ideas and commodities with a bit of foreign craftsmanship was sold to us at high prices which was a type of ‘kill job’ act. No stop to this again meant severe poverty and crisis. Just imagine, what would happen to all our precious commodities and resources, had Gandhi not come to our rescue?
One of the most celebrated deeds that Gandhiji was known for was violation of taxation laws by a Dandi March. The price of commodites such as salt, sugar, spices and other food items were skyrocketing not for they were scarce or there was a drought, but the British’s greediness. Nobody would have thought of or would have the courage to protest in such a peaceful and harmless ways, saving the fate and health of the country’s future.
Not only politically, but Gandhi shaped the country’s social future by asking the people to stop practising untouchabilty and educate the children irrespective of their gender, caste, race or religion. Gandhi was the chemotherapy to the tumour of orthodoxity, hatred, ego and super-selfishness prevailing in India.
To conclude, I would proudly admit that without Gandhi and his expertise skills we would have never achieved victory in 1947 or even after that. I am proud to celebrate Gandhi Jayanti and hope all the citizens also would be.
Jai Hind
