Do you fantasise about travelling through time like Marty Mcfly? Do you feel that it would be lovely if you had a machine allowing you to see your future and remedy the mistakes of your past like in the H.G.Wells' classic 'The Time Machine'? Do you always find yourself amazed when you see The Terminator? Well, you are not alone! A lot of people love these sci-fi movies and not because of the good looking actors but because of the concept of Time Travel embedded in the plots.

Time travel. What exactly is this?

This has been one of the most debated topic in that last few decades. Even more interesting that Bermuda triangle itself. Physicists have billions of theories and possibilities but it's up to us to decide which one we find to be correct. Some suggest that time travel is possible whereas some deny its existence completely.

I would like to present before you some of the theories that prove time travel possible and some that prove that it is not possible. To start with, let us talk about time. Time is nothing like you have ever imagined, in physics, it is a 4th dimension that shows direction. And space- time is a fabric in space.

Time travel means to be able to walk from one point of time to another. That means that you could go to the past to ask your friend out which you could never do before, or you could go into the future and see what is in store for you as you ascend ahead in life.

One way of time travel is by time dilation. It means creating a difference between your time and time of rest of the world. It's basic principle is when speed increases, time slows down. The second possible theory is with the help of wormholes. Wormholes are nothing but two holes in that space-time fabric that are connected to each other like portals. But it is not practically possible as we do not posses enough negative energy to hold them open for long. Another way is by using cosmic rings. Cosmic rings are narrow tubules of energy stretched across the universe. They are predicted to posses huge amount of mass and therefore they can wrap the space-time around them. The approach of two such rings parallel to each other would bend space-time so vigorously and this could make time travel possible. These were some theories that prove time travel possible.

Now let's talk of one such theory that prove it all wrong.

According to Albert Einstein, when you travel at a speed equal to the speed of light, time becomes still for you. And if you travel at a speed faster that light, time reverses itself making it possible to travel in past. But technically, at this speed, your mass becomes infinite. And this makes it impossible to travel in past. This theory denies the possibility of time travel in any way TODAY but we do not know what is in the future.

So what do you guys think about these theories? Do make sure to share your views and give your suggestions by emailing them to us.
